Kofi Setordji résume ce tableau en une phrase, un constat : “ de grands hommes ont perdu leur statut, leurs trônes et leur richesse à cause de l’amour “ . Entre les protagonistes, passe à la verticale, la belle pomme de discorde domine la scène de sa grande taille et de sa plastique parfaite. Ainsi la situation évoquée dans le tableau, est celle d’une relation triangulaire où un et un font trois. On se laisse aller à penser à Freud. La relation amoureuse ne se boucle que sur deux cœurs qu’à supposer la menace d’un tiers exclu. (…)

Kofi Setordji sums up this painting in a single sentence, a statement of fact: “great men have lost their status, their thrones and their wealth because of love. ” Between the protagonists, the beautiful apple of discord rises vertically, dominating the scene with its imposing size and perfect form. Thus, the situation depicted in the painting is that of a triangular relationship, where one and one make three. One cannot help but think of Freud. A love relationship can only be complete between two hearts if we assume the threat of an excluded third. (…)
